OUR HERITAGE

1945 – 1978

Our beginnings in Adelaide – the
James Gustav Goldner era

In 1945, at the age of 47, James Gustav (J.G.) Goldners trucks out with his wife Ethelene, transporting horses from Adelaide’s Morphettville racecourse.

In 1949, Goldners made ‘The Age’ newspaper for illegally transporting four racehorses on the ‘controlled route’ from Adelaide to Melbourne – one of which was the 1950 Melbourne Cup winner Comic Court.

1978 – 2003

A family business led by a pioneering businesswoman

On 22 July, 1978 J.G. passed away and his daughter Beryl assumed the Chairmanship of the family business. Beryl was a female pioneer in Australian business and especially the equine transport industry.

With her brothers Donald and Maxwell as shareholders, Beryl worked long hours to ensure that ‘Goldners quality’ service was delivered.

2003 – 2013

National expansion and service excellence

Having started working at Goldners in 1988, Mark A. I. Ker, J.G.’s great grandson, became a Director of the company in 2003 to transition from Beryl’s leadership.

Goldners expanded across eastern Australia, establishing a new headquarters in Sydney in 2007 and building a reputation for the best interstate service. John Hawkes, the legendary racehorse trainer, was an important driver of this shift, having requested ‘Goldners quality’ service for his growing Sydney based racing operation that he ran for the Ingham family.

2013 – Present

Australia’s premier thoroughbred transporter

In 2013, the company became part of Stonehouse Corporation, a private Australian company based in Melbourne, to ensure that the horse industry continues to receive ‘Goldners quality’ service for many years to come.

Goldners remains dedicated to our mission of providing the best equine transport available in Australia, and continues innovating, investing, and focusing on the quality of our service to our longstanding and loyal clientele.

A household name, racing legend, and hall of fame trainer, Bart Cummings trusted Goldners
to transport his champions to the track, throughout the state and across the country.

His testimonial will be treasured by Goldners, and sets the bar for horse transport standards to only improve in the future.

“I have known and used Goldners Horse Transport for many years and which dates back to when my principal stable was located at Morphettville in South Australia.”

“I have always found Goldners an excellent company and when they established a depot at Warwick Farm several years ago I had no hesitation in using their services to transport all horses under my care to and from race meetings, to my Randwick and Flemington stables including all paddock and stud work.”

“The company has excellent horse floats, and all of their staff are experienced with handling thoroughbreds, with their service second to none.”

“I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone in the racing industry.”
